Agro-ecologische landbouw biedt potentieel om landbouw, natuur en burgers dichter bij elkaar te brengen. Wat agro-ecologie inhoudt is voor boeren, burgers en besturen veelal nog onbekend. Door agro-ecologie toe te passen op landbouwgronden van de POM Antwerpen (Provinciale Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij) in Waarloos (Kontich) willen de projectpartners tonen hoe het kan: van overleg met stakeholders over juridische mogelijkheden om grond over te dragen en het zoeken van synergieën met water, bodem, natuur en recreatie, tot de uiteindelijke uitgifte van de gronden aan een of meerdere agro-ecologische boeren. Het projectdoel is niet alleen een operationeel bedrijf maar ook een lastenboek voor de uitgifte en een handboek voor (lokale) besturen dat de goede praktijken en de verzamelde informatie bundelt. Het HOGENT-onderzoekscentrum Futures through Design brengt expertise in over regeneratieve landschappen en landbouw, voedselbossen en ontwerpend onderzoek en scenariodenken als verbindende en emanciperende factoren.

Agro-ecological farming has the potential to bring agriculture, nature and citizens closer together. The concept of agro-ecology is still largely unknown to farmers, citizens and governments. By applying agro-ecology to the agricultural lands of POM Antwerp in Waarloos (Kontich), the project partners aim to demonstrate how it can be done: from stakeholder consultations on the legal possibilities of land transfer and finding synergies with water, soil, nature and recreation, to the eventual issuance of the lands to one or more agro-ecological farmers. The project's goal is not only to establish an operational farm but also to create a specifications document for land issuance and a handbook for (local) governments that compiles best practices and gathered information. The HOGENT research center Futures through Design contributes expertise in regenerative landscapes and agriculture, food forests and design research and scenario thinking as connecting and emancipatory factors.
