Dit onderzoeksproject richt zich op het verbeteren van communicatie tussen zorgprofessionals en anderstalige patiënten met diabetes of hypertensie in een superdiverse maatschappij. De toename van taal- en cultuurbarrières belemmert de toegankelijkheid tot kwalitatieve zorg, vooral door het tekort aan gecertificeerde tolken. In navolging van eerdere projecten zoals COM-Power, waarin hulpmiddelen zoals meertalige video's en cultuursensitieve recepten werden ontwikkeld, is de focus nu op verdere ondersteuning van zorgverleners in hun communicatie met anderstaligen. Het project onderzoekt hoe communicatie op maat van de patiënt kan bijdragen aan geïntegreerde zorg voor chronische ziekten, met nadruk op zelfmanagement en het begrijpen van complexe gezondheidsinformatie. Op die manier wil dit project ook bijdragen aan de reductie van gezondheidsongelijkheid. 
De hoofddoelstelling is het ondersteunen van eerstelijnszorgprofessionals in hun communicatie met anderstalige diabetes- en hypertensiepatiënten. Subdoelen zijn onder meer het verzamelen van data over meertalige patiëntenpopulaties voor beleidsaanbevelingen over inclusieve communicatie, het prioriteren van belangrijke gespreksonderwerpen zoals voeding en medicatie, en het ontwikkelen van hulpmiddelen en educatiematerialen die gericht zijn op deze doelgroepen.
De centrale onderzoeksvraag is hoe zorgprofessionals beter ondersteund kunnen worden om effectieve preventie en behandeling te bevorderen bij anderstalige patiënten. Deelvragen richten zich op het verzamelen van relevante data, het identificeren van prioritaire gespreksonderwerpen, en het ontwikkelen van communicatieve bruginstrumenten. Uiteindelijk zullen de onderzoeksresultaten leiden tot betere gezondheidscommunicatie, waardoor de zorg meer gepersonaliseerd en patiëntgericht wordt, zoals aanbevolen door het Gemeenschappelijk plan voor chronisch zieken.

This research project focuses on improving communication between healthcare professionals and non-native speaking patients with diabetes and hypertension in a super-diverse society. The primary objective is to support primary care professionals in their communication with non-native speaking patients with diabetes and hypertension. Sub-goals include gathering data on multilingual patient populations for policy recommendations on inclusive communication, prioritizing important conversation topics such as nutrition and medication, and developing tools and educational materials tailored to these target groups.
The central research question is how healthcare professionals can be better supported to promote effective prevention and treatment among non-native speaking patients. Sub-questions focus on collecting relevant data, identifying priority conversation topics, and developing communicative bridging tools. Ultimately, the research results will lead to improved health communication, making care more personalized and patient-centered, as recommended by the Common Plan for Chronic Patients.
