Het internationale kernteam van ISCWeB (International Survey of Children's Well-Being) ontwikkelde een speciale ISCWeB-COVID-19 bevraging om de impact van de pandemie op het welbevinden van kinderen (leeftijd 10 tot 12 jaar) wereldwijd te onderzoeken. Het ISCWeB-COVID-19 onderzoek zal uit twee luiken bestaan: een kwantitatief surveyluik en een kwalitatief luik op basis van focusgroepgesprekken.
Het ISCWeB onderzoek heeft tot doel het verzamelen van kwalitatief hoogstaande, representatieve gegevens over het leven en de dagelijkse activiteiten van kinderen, hun tijdsbesteding en in het bijzonder hun eigen percepties en evaluaties van hun welzijn.
Het internationale ISCWeB onderzoek vertrekt vanuit een kinderrechtenperspectief en stelt dat het essentieel is om kinderen een omgeving te bieden waarin ze volledig tot bloei kunnen komen en hun hoogste potentieel kunnen bereiken. Kinderen hebben het recht om zich 'goed' te voelen en kennis over de perceptie van hun eigen subjectieve gevoel van welzijn is daarbij een fundamentele graadmeter. Ook op dit punt volgt het onderzoek het Kinderrechtenverdrag, waarin wordt gesteld (art. 12) dat kinderen het recht hebben om te participeren in de samenleving en het recht om hun mening te geven en vrij te uiten 'in alle aangelegenheden die het kind betreffen'. Het eigen welzijn is bij uitstek zo'n aangelegenheid, en dit kan ook best gebeuren door kinderen hierover rechtstreeks te bevragen.

In 2020, het jaar waarin we wereldwijd getroffen werden door de covid19 pandemie, werd herhaaldelijk en uit verschillende hoeken gewezen op de impact die deze pandemie (en de daaraan gekoppelde maatregelen) heeft op het leven van kinderen en jongeren. Met name vanuit die optiek is een speciale ISCWeB-COVID-19 bevraging over de impact van de pandemie op het welbevinden van kinderen, ook in Vlaanderen, van groot belang. Het internationale onderzoek bestaat uit een survey en een aantal focusgroepen bij jongeren uit het zesde leerjaar.

The international core team of ISCWeB (International Survey of Children's Well-Being) developed a special ISCWeB-COVID-19 survey to investigate the impact of the pandemic on the well-being of children (ages 10 to 12) worldwide. The ISCWeB-COVID-19 research will consist of two parts: a quantitative survey part and a qualitative part based on focus group discussions.
The ISCWeB survey aims to collect high-quality, representative data on children's lives and daily activities, their time use and, in particular, their own perceptions and evaluations of their well-being.
The international ISCWeB study takes a children's rights perspective and argues that it is essential to provide children with an environment in which they can fully flourish and reach their highest potential. Children have the right to feel 'good' and knowledge about the perception of their own subjective sense of well-being is a fundamental measure of this. Also on this point, the research follows the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states (art. 12) that children have the right to participate in society and the right to freely express their opinion and express themselves 'in all matters affecting the child'. One's own well-being is such a matter par excellence, and this can best be done by asking children directly about it.

In 2020, the year in which we were hit worldwide by the covid19 pandemic, the impact that this pandemic (and the associated measures) has on the lives of children and young people has been repeatedly and from different angles pointed out. Particularly from this point of view, a special ISCWeB-COVID-19 survey about the impact of the pandemic on the well-being of children, also in Flanders, is of great importance. The international study consists of a survey and a number of focus groups among young people in the sixth grade.
