Effectief én efficiënt duaal leren in het hoger onderwijs

Dit project beoogt een optimale implementatie- en verbredingsstrategie voor duaal leren te ontwikkelen door te onderzoeken wat de minimale randvoorwaarden hiervoor zijn bij alle belanghebbende partijen en voor verschillende concepten van duaal leren. Hiertoe formuleren we twee grote leervragen (A en B):

A) Wat is de effectiviteit van een duaal traject versus een regulier traject?
We willen nagaan wat de impact van duaal leren is op de motivatie, het studierendement en de competentieontwikkeling van de student en wat de randvoorwaarden zijn voor het realiseren van een optimale studie-efficiëntie bij duale trajecten. We zullen hiervoor resultaten en bevindingen van studenten in een duaal traject vergelijken met de resultaten en bevindingen van studenten uit het parallelle reguliere traject (voor de opleidingen waar beide trajecten aangeboden worden: pba Biomedische Laboratoriumtechnologie, pba Chemie, grad Winkelmanagement). De resultaten van deze leervraag zullen de hogeschool (en bij uitbreiding ook andere hoger onderwijsinstellingen) toelaten om onderbouwd middelen in te zetten en/of opleidingsprogramma’s te ontwikkelen die beantwoorden aan de noden van toekomstige studenten, opleidingen en werkveldactoren.

B) Hoe kunnen duale trajecten optimaal efficiënt georganiseerd worden?
We willen nagaan wat er volgens de belanghebbende partijen (zowel studenten, lesgevers als werkveldactoren) nodig is om een duaal traject optimaal te organiseren en implementeren, dit in nieuwe én bestaande duale trajecten. We bouwen hiervoor verder op onze ervaring met duale trajecten uit een eerder ESF-project (Samen naar Duaal Leren in HO - ESF-oproep 451, project 8540) en ervaringen vanuit reeds gerealiseerde duale trajecten in verschillende opleidingen. We vullen deze ervaring aan door in het project de focus te leggen op een aantal organisatorische implementatievragen. Als resultaat van deze leervraag beogen we o.a. ook een elektronische leeromgeving te integreren. Via dit platform willen we voor bedrijven de drempel verlagen om in te stappen in een duaal traject.

In het project zullen duale trajecten opgestart worden zowel bij bachelor- als graduaatsopleidingen, zowel als regulier traject als alternatief traject, zowel voor reguliere studenten als voor werkstudenten. Door deze brede scope kunnen we de bovenstaande doelstellingen realiseren voor verschillende concepten van duale trajecten en creëren we brede toepassingsmogelijkheden van duaal leren binnen het hoger onderwijs, zowel voor HOGENT als voor andere hogeronderwijsinstellingen.

Effective and efficient dual learning in higher education

This project aims to develop an optimal implementation and broadening strategy for dual learning by investigating the minimum preconditions for this among all stakeholders and for different concepts of dual learning. To this end, we formulate two main learning questions (A and B):

(A) What is the effectiveness of a dual pathway versus a regular pathway?
We want to investigate the impact of dual learning on students' motivation, study efficiency and competence development and the preconditions for achieving optimal study efficiency in dual pathways. To this end, we will compare results and findings of students in a dual pathway with the results and findings of students from the parallel regular pathway (for the programmes where both pathways are offered: pba Biomedical Laboratory Technology, pba Chemistry, grad Shop Management). The results of this learning demand will allow the university college (and, by extension, other higher education institutions) to allocate substantiated resources and/or develop training programmes that respond to the needs of future students, courses and field actors.

B) How can dual pathways be organised in the most efficient way?
We want to examine what stakeholders (students, teachers and field actors) think is needed to optimally organise and implement a dual pathway in new and existing dual pathways. For this, we build on our experience with dual pathways from an earlier ESF project (Samen naar Duaal Leren in HO - ESF call 451, project 8540) and experiences from already implemented dual pathways in various courses. We complement this experience by focusing the project on a number of organisational implementation questions. As a result of this learning question, we also aim to integrate an electronic learning environment, among other things. Via this platform, we want to lower the threshold for companies to enter a dual pathway.

In the project, dual pathways will be started up in both bachelor and graduate programmes, both as regular pathways and as alternative pathways, both for regular students and working students. Through this broad scope, we can realise the above objectives for different concepts of dual pathways and create broad application possibilities of dual learning within higher education, both for HOGENT and for other higher education institutions.
