This research project examined the availability of and need for gender-sensitive prevention and treatment approaches in Belgium, as well as the obstacles and challenges experienced by female substance abusers in using these services. The scope included illicit substances, alcohol, prescription drugs and NPS. Importantly, gender sensitivity was studied not only in treatment settings, but along the continuum of care, including prevention, early intervention, harm reduction and continuing care settings. The study applied a multi-method design and integrated quantitative and qualitative data.
