Doel van dit project is om de toekomstige opstart van een spinoff rond maatvoering van zadels voor moderne sportpaarden voor te bereiden. Nieuwe en bestaande kennis en technologie op het vlak van de lichaamsbouw van paarden (meetsysteem) zadelfitting en de interactie paard - zadel - ruiter wensen de aanvragers te valoriseren.

HorSize - Sizing up modern horses for targeted saddleproduction and fitting

Saddle producers, fitters, sports coaches and riders require reliable analyses of the modern sport horses’ back conformation, at a population and individual level. Professionals express the need for better knowledge concerning which saddle sizes to provide for modern horses and this primordially in the withers region.
This project caters to this market opportunity by getting a ‘database with withers sizes (HorSize)’ and a ‘measuring device for equine withers (HorSizer)’ market-ready. Previous applied research provides the basis and in the intended business model both realizations will keep evolving and feeding each other.
Practical and economic feasability will be guaranteed via market study and systematic user feedback by the above-mentioned stakeholders. This will facilitate a substantiated choice of the most appropriate valorisation route (spin-off or licensing to existing companies).
Future potential lies in expanding to other body sites (and thus tack types), equine populations (types & breeds), animal species and equestrians themselves.
