Inzicht in de dynamiek en de gevolgen van het gebruik van middelen door jongvolwassenen - een longitudinale en momentane analyse in de Europese nachtclubscene

Het nachtleven is in de laatste decennia sterk gegroeid en wordt sterk geassocieerd met druggebruik. Ondertussen is er ook een ongezien aantal Nieuwe Psychoactieve Stoffen (NPS) opgedoken. De kracht van ecstasypillen is verdubbeld, en daarmee ook het aantal gezondheidsincidenten. Eerdere studies slaagden er niet in om de dynamiek van het druggebruik in het nachtleven te vatten, op korte termijn (voor, tijdens en na het clubben) en op lange termijn (veranderingen doorheen de tijd). Een pan-Europees begrip van deze zaken is noodzakelijk om optimale beleidskeuzes te maken in verband met licenties in het nachtleven, drugcontroles en schadebeperking.
Dit onderzoeksproject combineert de nieuwste interdisciplinaire technieken (momentair of ‘real time’, langetermijn, subjectief, biologisch) met een vergelijking over landen heen, om op die manier inzicht te krijgen in de dynamiek en evolutie van druggebruik en de gevolgen ervan op korte en lange termijn.

Understanding the Dynamics and Consequences of Young Adult Substance Use Pathways - A Longitudinal And Momentary Analysis in the European nightclub scene

Nightlife has grown significantly in recent decades and is strongly associated with drug use. Meanwhile, an unseen number of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) have also emerged. The potency of ecstasy pills has doubled, and with it the number of health incidents. Previous studies failed to capture the dynamics of drug use in nightlife, short-term (before, during and after clubbing) and long-term (changes over time). A pan-European understanding of these issues is necessary to make optimal policy choices regarding nightlife licensing, drug control and harm reduction.
This research project combines the latest interdisciplinary techniques (instantaneous or real-time, long-term, subjective, biological) with cross-country comparison to understand the dynamics and evolution of drug use and its short- and long-term consequences.
