Angst voor de schoolpoort – de hulpverlening

‘Angst voor de schoolpoort’ (2017-2020) was een PWO project waarin het onbekende fenomeen ‘schoolweigering’ systemisch werd onderzocht. De focus in het project lag op onderwijsactoren. Na afloop van dit onderzoek werden vragen en noden naar aanpak binnen de andere betrokken systemen bij dit fenomeen, nl. het gezin en de hulpverlening, niet beantwoord. Nog niet..
Omdat inzetten op schoolweigering (en afwezigheden) een cruciale rol speelt in vroegdetectie en vroeginterventie van psychische problemen wil dit onderzoeksproject ASPO-h zich richten op de niet-residentiele eerstelijnsjeugdhulpverlening en hoe die schoolweigeraars en hun context (het gezin) hulp biedt. Want de behandeling van schoolweigering vraagt om aanklampende en laagdrempelige hulpverlening (Van Driessche, Ameye & De Nys, 2022). Het AMBIT-model is een denk- en werkmodel dat een goed kader biedt om als hulpverlener, bijvoorbeeld in dit geval met de schoolweigeraar en het gezin, aan de slag te gaan. In dit model staat ‘mentaliseren’ centraal en vormt dit de as van het AMBIT-wiel, dat verder is opgebouwd uit vier kwadranten: werken met het team, werken met de cliënt, werken binnen het netwerk, leren op het werk.
Het doel van dit onderzoek is om het AMBIT-model te concretiseren voor de professionele jeugdhulpverlener binnen diverse niet-residentiele hulpverleningsorganisaties in Oost-Vlaanderen. Door in co-creatie en via story dialogue met 5-10 hulpverleners te werken aan een specifiek werkmodel wil dit onderzoek dergelijke hulpverleners een houvast bieden in de aanpak van schoolweigering en de ondersteuning van de schoolweigeraar en het gezin.

Fear of the school gate

'Fear of the school gate' (2017-2020) was a PWO project that systemically investigated the unknown phenomenon of 'school refusal'. The focus in the project was on education actors. At the end of this research, questions and needs about approaches within the other systems involved in this phenomenon, i.e. the family and social care, were not answered. Not yet.
Because betting on school refusal (and absences) plays a crucial role in early detection and early intervention of mental health problems, this ASPO-h research project wants to focus on non-residential first-line youth care and how it helps school refusers and their context (the family). After all, the treatment of school refusal requires clinging and easily accessible assistance (Van Driessche, Ameye & De Nys, 2022). The AMBIT model is a thinking and working model that provides a good framework to work on as a counsellor, for example in this case with the school refuser and the family. In this model, 'mentalising' is central and forms the axis of the AMBIT wheel, which is further composed of four quadrants: working with the team, working with the client, working within the network, learning at work.
The aim of this research is to concretise the AMBIT model for the professional youth care provider within various non-residential care organisations in East Flanders. By working in co-creation and through story dialogue with 5-10 social workers on a specific working model, this research aims to provide such social workers with a handhold in addressing school refusal and supporting the school refuser and the family.
