Arts-Based Research in Addressing Social Inequality and Exclusion

Probleemstelling en doelstelling: Met het project ‘Arts-Based-Research’ exploreren we hoe performatief onderzoek (nl. creatieve of kunst gebaseerde onderzoeksmethoden) binnen EQUALITY//ResearchCollective ingezet kan worden om antwoord te bieden op vraagstukken zoals sociale ongelijkheid en uitsluiting. De performatieve onderzoeksbenadering sluit sterk aan bij de kernwaarden en doelstellingen van het collectief om specifieke aandacht te hebben voor het betrekken van de ‘lived experiences’ van mensen in sociale kwetsbare situaties en naar het opzetten van participatieve benaderingen waarbij co-creatie met deelnemers als de sleutel wordt beschouwd om machtsverhoudingen in de samenleving aan te pakken.
In twee actiegerichte participatieve onderzoeksprojecten zullen we diverse op kunst gebaseerde methodologieën inzetten om dit doel te bereiken. Terzelfdertijd is het ook de bedoeling om onze onderzoekservaringen te beschrijven en te documenteren en zo andere onderzoekers binnen het collectief mee te nemen in deze onderzoeksmethode.
Impact op Stakeholders: Stakeholders zoals EQUALITY//ResearchCollective onderzoekers, gemeenschappen in kwetsbare situaties en bredere samenlevingen zullen profiteren van deze aanpak. Het project bevordert inclusieve onderzoekspraktijken en biedt een platform om stemmen te laten horen. Het beoogt een duurzame impact te hebben op maatschappelijke structuren door bewustwording te vergroten en beleidsveranderingen te stimuleren.

Arts-Based Research in Addressing Social Inequality and Exclusion

Problem definition and aim: With the 'Arts-Based-Research' project, we explore how performative research (i.e. creative or arts-based research methods) can be used within EQUALITY//ResearchCollective to respond to issues such as social inequality and exclusion. The performative research approach aligns strongly with the core values and aims of the collective to have a specific focus on engaging the 'lived experiences' of people in socially vulnerable situations and towards establishing participatory approaches where co-creation with participants is considered key to addressing power relations in society.
In two action-oriented participatory research projects, we will use various arts-based methodologies to achieve this goal. At the same time, we also intend to describe and document our research experiences to bring other researchers within the collective into this research methodology.
Impact on Stakeholders: Stakeholders such as EQUALITY//ResearchCollective researchers, communities in vulnerable situations and wider societies will benefit from this approach. The project promotes inclusive research practices and provides a platform for voices to be heard. It aims to have a sustainable impact on societal structures by raising awareness and stimulating policy change.
