Co-teaching als hefboom voor een hoger leerrendement bij leerlingen

Secundaire school IVG Gent stelt vast dat differentiatie op cognitief niveau niet meer voldoet om met elke leerling een optimaal leerrendement te halen. De school wil daarom co-teaching tussen vakleerkrachten verbreden naar co-teaching met zorgprofessionals. In dit project werken IVG school Gent en onderzoekers van het HOGENT Research Centre for Learning in Diversity die expertise hebben rond deze specifieke vorm van co-teaching, samen in de vorm van een begeleidings-/professionaliseringstraject voor de betrokken leerkrachten en zorgprofessionals. Het doel is om, via een versterkte samenwerking tussen die actoren op de klasvloer, binnenklasdifferentiatie doelgerichter aan te sturen.
Concreet bestaat het begeleidings/professionaliseringstraject uit een initiële groepssessie en daaropvolgende coachingsmomenten met de betrokken co-teachers. Het hoofddoel van deze coachingsmomenten is het optimaliseren van de samenwerking tussen de co-teachers (i.e. elkaars competenties leren kennen en onderzoeken hoe ze hun pedagogische competenties kunnen verenigen) en het samen leren ontwikkelen van een handelingsgerichte aanpak binnen de klasgroepen waar ze samen voor de klas staan. Via dit traject wordt een onderzoekende houding gestimuleerd bij alle actoren, een belangrijke pijler uit het professionaliseringsbeleid van de school.

Co-teaching as a lever for increased learning outcomes in students

Secondary school IVG Gent observes that differentiation at the cognitive level is no longer sufficient to achieve optimal learning outcomes with every student Therefore, the school aims to expand their co-teaching strategies, involving not only subject teachers but care professionals as well. In this project, IVG School Gent and researchers from the HOGENT Research Centre for Learning in Diversity, who have expertise in this specific form of co-teaching, collaborate in a professional development program for the involved teachers and care professionals. The goal is to support a more effective and differentiated organization of education, through enhanced collaboration among these stakeholders in the classroom.
Concretely, the professional development program consists of an initial group session and subsequent coaching sessions with the involved co-teachers. The main objective of these coaching sessions is to optimize the collaboration between the co-teachers (i.e., getting to know each other's competencies and exploring how to unite their pedagogical competencies) and collectively developing an action-oriented approach within the class groups where they teach together. This program encourages an investigative attitude among all stakeholders, an important pillar in the school's professional development policy.
