Doel van dit project is om een aan HOGENT ontwikkelde innovatieve technologie voor (de)assemblage van meubels verder te ontwikkelen voor markttoepassing in een circulair business model en de toekomstige opstart van een spin-off of licentiëring aan de meubelindustrie voor te bereiden.

Innovative Designfor Disassembly technology for circular furniture

In spite of the increasing need for and policy pressure towards a circular economy, the switch from a classic linear to a more circular model remains challenging and often requires radical innovation. This is especially the case in the furniture industry where great potential remains unused due to a lack of knowhow in circular design methodology.

This IKIRU StarTT project aims to (i) further research & develop a promising new furniture disassembly technique (parts are reusable and replaceable, modular, no tools needed) recently developed at HOGENT (from the current tPoC to an iPoC) and optimize it for commercialization in an extensive user-centered approach, and (ii) identify and develop the best valorization strategy (spin-off or license) based on a.o. a thorough market and feasibility study. Protection of IP rights will be secured through a patent application on a ‘furniture key’, a crucial and innovative part of the modular design.
