GEGROND. CLT als model voor rechtvaardig en duurzaam wonen?

De klimaatcrisis, de toenemende ongelijkheid, de wooncrisis … tonen ons dat we op de grenzen gebotst zijn van wat onze wereld aankan. Deze problemen komen voort uit hoe wij onze maatschappelijke systemen (van produceren, werken, organiseren, wonen, …) ingericht hebben. Daarom is er nood aan transities: grote en ingrijpende veranderingen richting een duurzaam systeem.
Community Landtrust Gent is een poging tot antwoord hierop. Het wil werk maken van “duurzame en kwalitatieve woningen tegen betaalbare prijzen op gemeenschapsgronden voor kwetsbare groepen volgens een vernieuwend, buurtgericht en participatief model”.
Hiermee is het ook een voorbeeld van werken aan duurzaamheid op een manier die niet verengd wordt tot het ecologische, maar die ook het economische en sociale ten volle meeneemt.
Community Land Trust Gent speelt zich nu nog af in een niche. Het is een experiment waaruit veel te leren valt. En dat is precies wat we met dit onderzoek willen doen: welke kansen liggen er in het Community Land Trust model voor een rechtvaardige en duurzame stadstransitie? Maar ook: met welke uitdagingen wordt het geconfronteerd om dit waar te maken?
We willen dit onderzoeken door deel te nemen aan activiteiten van CLT Gent. Door bewoners, medewerkers, buurtorganisaties en beleidsactoren te vragen naar de betekenis van het project voor hen. En door literatuuronderzoek en documentanalyse om de geleerde lessen breder te kaderen.
Met wat we leren willen we, samen met CLT Gent, zowel overheden, lokaal en Vlaams, als andere initiatiefnemers informeren en inspireren. Zodat Community Land Trusts meer en gemakkelijker opgezet kunnen worden.

GROUNDED. CLT as a model for equitable and sustainable living?

The climate crisis, rising inequality, the housing crisis ... show us that we have collided at the limits of what our world can handle. These problems stem from how we have organised our social systems (of producing, working, organising, living, etc.). That is why we need transitions: major and far-reaching changes towards a sustainable system.
Community Landtrust Ghent is an attempt to respond to this. It wants to work towards "sustainable and high-quality housing at affordable prices on community land for vulnerable groups according to an innovative, neighbourhood-oriented and participative model".
This also makes it an example of working on sustainability in a way that is not narrowed down to the ecological, but that also takes the economic and social fully into account.
Community Land Trust Ghent is currently still playing in a niche. It is an experiment from which there is much to learn. And that is exactly what we want to do with this research: what opportunities are there in the Community Land Trust model for an equitable and sustainable urban transition? But also: what challenges does it face to make this a reality?
We want to explore this by participating in activities of CLT Ghent. By asking residents, staff, neighbourhood organisations and policy actors about what the project means to them. And by literature research and document analysis to frame the lessons learned more broadly.
With what we learn, together with CLT Ghent, we want to inform and inspire both authorities, local and Flemish, and other initiators. So that Community Land Trusts can be set up more and more easily.
